This year there are a few rule changes including the reduction of roster spots from the usual 34 to 32. (12 pitchers and 20 positional players).

Another change has to do with roster selection. Rather than the managers selecting the reserves and filling out the roster this year it was left up to the players, fans, and the commissioners office. The fans voted for the starters, the players each selected 16 reserves from both the AL and NL (eight pitchers and a player from each position). The final roster spot will be determined by a fan vote.
